Learn to Play Craps – Hints and Schemes: The Past of Craps
Be brilliant, play clever, and pickup craps the right way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was derived from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A few acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
