Be smart, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the proper way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French moved down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
