Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. At another time, he created the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
