Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French moved down south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
