Learn to Play Craps – Pointers and Tactics: The History of Craps
Be smart, play clever, and master craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he designed the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
