Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win.
