Learn to Play Craps – Tricks and Plans: The Background of Craps
Be smart, play brilliant, and pickup craps the proper way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. At another time, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
